A UKULELE JOURNEY

Learning the Ukulele rarely stops at mastering a few chords and learning a couple of songs.  For so many students it quickly becomes much more. It opens up the experience of being able to play an instrument, being able to sing along, and even being able to join with others and enjoy the connection and friendships that music brings. Two recent Absolute Beginners graduates, Bev (73) and Julie (69), went on to form their own group and invited friends to learn and play with them.

The participants sharing their Ukulele Journey above had either NO prior experience with learning a musical instrument EVER, or had a bit 'years ago in school'.  These videos were taken after just 4 WEEKS of following my Ukulele for Absolute Beginners Online Course.

"I must admit, that as I am 70 years old, and this course is ONLINE, I was not very confident that I would be able to follow the course as I would have if it had been face to face, but thought I would give it a try as there was no alternative.

But the 'step by step' format that Stephanie has devised covered all the areas I thought I would struggle with, so that by the end of this first course, we were already having 'fun' and went looking for more tunes that only had the chords in them we had learnt.

I soon realised that I had been given enough tuition in a short time to have the confidence to try to keep going by myself.

UKO ONO IS MY VISION TO SHARE THE MAGIC OF MUSIC THROUGH THE HUMBLE UKULELE
- THE INSTRUMENT OF JOY - 

Since I started Uko Ono in 2016 I have taught hundreds of people to play the Ukulele - and it all started with The Sawtell Ukulele Group! We have been a regular feature in many community events throughout the Coffs Coast. One of our highlights was being asked to play at the Elton John Farewell Tour in Coffs in Feb 2020, on both nights!. We also had a surprise appearance on Channel 7's Sunrise.

I have taken most of these students from Absolute Beginners to being able to perform in public! It's been so much fun and some lifelong friendships have been formed. My hope is that you, too, will fall in love with the ukulele and find (or start) your own ukulele community.

I have been teaching the ukulele to hundreds of students of all ages and want to share the delight of the ukulele with you. You are never too old (or young) to learn the ukulele - it truly is the easiest instrument to learn.

I am a passionate believer in the power of music. Music has been used as a healing force for centuries and can bring people together by reaching across barriers of language, age, nationality, status and culture.

I run a range of community ukulele programs - from ukulele groups, courses, private lessons, workshops, events and outreach programs. I teach out of community halls, libraries, health centres, home, Zoom and now - online!

My specialty is Absolute Beginners and my aim is to make learning the ukulele a fun and joyful experience. There is nothing more satisfying than mastering a song and then belting it out - preferably with others.
